From 'the personal is political' to the Canadian Parliament, to Native Band Councils, our world is organized around political movements. Through our love and curiosity of the body politic, this Topic presents a large variety of media works examining all aspects of our political lives. Have something to say, get on the media soap-box and contribute!
To mark Media Democracy Day 2008, McGill graduate student and CKUT 90.3FM radio host Anna Leventhal presented her talk, Roots of Grass. In it, she reflects on her experience curating the exhibit Quebec Alternative. Working from the collection of McGill Communications professor Mark Raboy, Leventhal built an exhibit examining the burgeoning Quebec independent and community media movement of the late 1960s and 1970s. In her talk, Leventhal delves into how we look back on the media of the past, and how we continue to build upon it today.
